The 2017 Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) men’s and women’s soccer championships took place Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29 at the UNB Saint John Canada Games Stadium in Saint John, N.B. The warm, dry weather led to excellent playing conditions and outstanding games the entire weekend.
Both women's semi-finals went into penalty kicks with the University of King’s College Blue Devils and St. Thomas University Tommies advancing to the championship game. In the final, St. Thomas protected an early goal by Moira Kinney to defeat the Blue Devils 1-0. Mary Cronin was outstanding in net for the Tommies who collected their second ACAA banner.
On the men's side Holland College defeated the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics 3-0 in the final to win their fourth straight title. Ibrah Sanoh scored two goals and James Mallard added the other. The Hurricanes had advanced by defeated the Crandall University Chargers 3-0 while the Mount Saint Vincent University beat University of King's College 1-0.
The Tommies advance to the CCAA Women's Soccer Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia November 8-11. Dalhousie Agricultural College will also be there as the ACAA host team.
Holland College will be traveling to the CCAA Men's Soccer Championship in Vancouver, British Columbia November 8-11.
