Fredericton, NB - Almin Dervisevic (Ottawa, ON) put on a show at Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium on Friday evening. He scored a sensational 31 points to lead the Tommies to an 87-80 victory over Mount Allison.

"Al shot the ball well tonight and he played 40 minutes tonight and he was really good for us," John Hickey, STU coach, said while praising his player.

The Mounties started the game strong and had STU on the ropes. They pushed on to take the lead in the first quarter before Dervisevic and teammate, Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON), got going. Lavoie had an impressive 13 points in the first half.

The defensive jobs done by both teams were quite stellar; however, the Tommies really excelled from the second-quarter onward. They dominated Mount Allison in rebounding and, in particular, offensive-rebounding. They were retrieving the ball with monotonous regularity and did not give their opponents the chance to clear their lines.

The night belonged to Dervisevic who went 5-12 from the 3-point line while also dishing 6 assists and having 7 rebounds. He was not only scoring but he brought his teammates into the game and they answered the call when they were needed.

There was a scare for the home team towards the end of the game when Mount Allison attempted to mount a comeback but to no avail. The Tommies' held on for their first win of the season.

"It's always nice to beat a good team like Mount Allison, that's a good home win for us," Hickey replied when asked about how he felt after the game.

STU's next game will be away at UKC next Saturday while Mount Alisson will host Crandall on Friday evening.
