Fredericton, NB - Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON) and Gayo Isaya (Fredericton, NB) led the St. Thomas University Tommies to an 85-79 win over the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on Sunday afternoon at Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

The game was very close throughout. The Mystics led by the end of the first half by a single point by outscoring the Tommies in the first quarter. The Tommies were guilty of giving the ball away on too many occasions in the first half, which led to the deficit.

"When we take care of the basketball we put ourselves in a good spot, we weren't great in that area today and we turned it over a bit too much," STU head coach, John Hickey, said when explaining his team's turnover troubles.

Lavoie continued where he left off in the last game and finished with a game-high 23 points, along with seven rebounds and three steals. He was the team's chief scorer and was able to close out the game in the 4th quarter. He scored 10 points in that quarter and only missed one of his shots. He was driving to the basket with confidence and the Mystics had no answer for him.

"Geoff's a very good player so recognizing when he can be aggressive and score, he's starting to do that more," coach Hickey said after the game.

Isaya also managed a double- double as he finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds. He was naturally the player who defended from the front for the Tommies and set the tone from the first minute. He finished with four steals and was perfect from the free-throw line.

Hickey was happy to shower praise on his player. He said, "I think Gayo is the best defender in the league so he constantly brings defensive energy for us and we need that."

STU's next game will take place on February 26 when they pay a visit to UNBSJ while MSVU's next game is on the same day, and they will host Crandall.
