Tommies Win 3rd Straight With 81-57 Victory Over Seawolves

Fredericton, NB – Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON) put together an impressive offensive display as he and his St. Thomas Tommies team overcame the UNB Saint John Seawolves by a score of 81-57. This was STU's final home game of the first semester.

Lavoie took on the role of shooter today and he did not disappoint. He scored 10 of his 27 points in the first quarter in which his teammates found him with great regularity. Along with the 27 points, he had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks. A well-rounded game from Lavoie.

Tommies' head coach, John Hickey, was pleased with Lavoie's performance. He said, "Geoff's a good player and today he had the mentality of a scorer, which was nice."

The game was also won by an astounding defensive display from the Tommies, which was led by Gayo Isaya (Fredericton, NB). From the first minute, he was hounding the Seawolves players and tried to win back the ball or force turnovers. He succeeded several times and forced a lot of turnover points for the Tommies. Isaya finished the game with 20 points and 8 rebounds.

Hickey was also happy with Isaya's efforts. He explained, "Gayo is a very good defender, a very good on-ball defender, and when his energy is good defensively then our energy is good defensively."

The defensive effort was crucial for the Tommies. They managed to restrict all but two of the Seawolves players from getting double-figure points. This was also helped by Ted Braden's (Ottawa, ON) contribution of 7 offensive-rebounds and 13 rebounds in total.

Former Tommie, Colin Loughery, paced the Seawolves with 22 points in 26 minutes off of the bench.

Hickey said he was very happy with his team's performance over this weekend and looks forward to the rest of the games this year. "We look at the next game and the last game, we've got Holland coming up next, in Holland, so that will be a good test for us," he added.

The Tommies' next game will be on November 20th when they make the trip to face Holland in PEI. The Seawolves will also be in action on November 20th when they host Crandall.
