ACAA Badminton Playoffs Preview

With the ACAA set to begin its third weekend under Return to Play protocols, the first conference hardware of the winter sport season is set to be handed out.

Langille Athletic Centre in Bible Hill, N.S. will provide the backdrop for the ACAA Badminton Playoffs and CCAA Badminton Qualifier, which are set to be played this weekend.

Prior to the holidays, two ACAA badminton meets were contested, and both team events were won by the University of King's College Blue Devils, with Bryce Mason and Anna Gillies winning both 'A' singles finals in the men's and women's divisions, respectively.

Both Mason and Gillies defeated their doubles partners, Jack Ronahan and Fiona Purdy, respectively, in both meets before winning their respective Doubles 'A' finals, with Gillies also claiming both Mixed Doubles 'A' finals, one with Ronahan and the other with Aidan Badcock-Parks.

The Mount Allison University Mounties emerged as the clear-cut second contender in the two meets, collecting the most total points in the women's singles and women's doubles draws as the team finished an average of 11 points back of the Blue Devils between the two meets.

Lindsay Murray and Amber Solomon each have a Women's Singles 'B' final win over Mounties teammate Taryn Greco this season, with Solomon also taking a Women's Doubles 'B' final with partner Sophie Geis.

The host Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams worked to close the gap over the first two meets, finishing with 33 and 49 points, respectively. The Rams claimed the men's and women's 'B' doubles finals in the opening meet thanks to the teams of Bent/Bauld and Yu/McKegney, while Colby Wolfe grabbed the men's 'C' singles final in the second meet.

Meanwhile, the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons have also had their moments this season, with the team of d'Entremont and Surette picking up the Men's Doubles 'C' final in both meets, while Whitney Doucet claimed the Women's Singles 'C' final in the second meet.

After the opening day of competition, the ACAA will announce its All-Conference award winners for the 2021-22 season.

On the second day, competitors will be looking to punch their tickets to Edmonton for the 2022 CCAA Badminton National Championships, hosted by the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

The opening day of competition will be streamed here, while the second day of competition will be streamed here.
