ACAA women’s basketball

The UNB Saint John Seawolves and Mount Allison University met in ACAA women's basketball Wednesday night at UNBSJ.

The Mounties came out hard and carved out a 32-18 first half lead. The Seawolves made some progress in the third quarter outscoring the Mounties 18-16 but their legs deserted them from playing five games in eight days and the Mounties ran away with the fourth quarter to take the game 67-42.

The Mounties were led by Karly Buckingham who poured in a game-high 16 points. Nicole Smolensk scored 10 points. Kiersten Mangold, Kathleen Morrison and Katherine Ollerhead each had 8 points and Mangold led all players with 11 rebounds.

Megan Baisley scored 10 points for the Seawolves. Jillian McNally and Emily Fitzpatrick had 6 points each and Allannah Hansen led all Seawolves with 8 rebounds.

The Seawolves finish with a 3-15 record and will play the Holland College Hurricanes in the quarter final at the ACAA Championships in Truro March 2nd.

The Mounties are now 13-4 and will host the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics at 2:00 PM February 24 in their final game of the season in what could be the championship final this year in the ACAA playoffs.
