UNB Reds Take Home The Rugby Banner

The University of New Brunswick Reds claimed the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association women’s rugby championships with a 24-0 win over the St. Thomas University Tommies, Saturday afternoon at College Field.

Taylor Morgan got UNB on the board with a try in the last 5 minutes of the first half, giving the Reds some momentum heading into half-time up 5-0. Leading the charge for UNB out of half was once again Taylor Morgan who scored her second try off a 50 yard carry along with Julija Rans adding a conversion.

Saint Thomas responded with several attempts to cross UNB’s try line but each attempt was matched by superior defense, preventing the Tommies from scoring.

Amy Andrews would add on to the lead with a try alongside Rans adding her second conversion.

Rounding out the scoring for the match was Morgan as she added her third try with only minutes remaining.

The final whistle would sound with UNB completing the perfect season 9-0, bringing home the ACAA Championship for the second consecutive year.

Following the game, Amy Andrews, Maria Muise, Taylor McAuly, Julija Rans, and Taran Price were named ACAA All-Conference players for UNB. In addition to her All-Conference Selection, Price was also recognized as Player of the Year at the championship banquet.

STU’s Kiaya Jordan, Bailey Andrews, Shannon Morris, and Jenna Betts were named to the All-Conference team, while Olivia Ricketts brought home Rookie of the Year and Meghan Morrison was named Coach of the Year.
