Monster Performance from Ellison Powers Mounties to First Victory
(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties men's basketball team took to the court at the McCormack Gymnasium Sunday afternoon in hopes of getting their first victory of the season against the UNBSJ Seawolves.
Tim Ellison (Halifax, NS) made his mark early on in this one as he had 12 points and 8 rebounds in the first quarter to lead all scorers. A balanced attacked from the Seawolves made it a back-and-forth affair as the teams were deadlocked at 19 after the first.
The Mounties would pick up on both ends of the floor in the second quarter holding the Seawolves to 14 in the second and Ellison continuing to put his imprint on the game, finishing the first half with an outstanding 20 points and 15 rebounds. The Mounties took an 8-point advantage into the break, leading the Seawolves by a score of 41-33.
Halftime adjustments proved successful for UNBSJ as they were able to go on a large run to regain the lead in the third quarter led by AJ Nash (St. John's, NL) and Dov Kahn (Toronto, ON). The Seawolves run would see them outscore the Mounties by 10 in the quarter and take a slim two-point lead into the fourth, ending the third ahead 55-53.
Clutch buckets down the stretch from first-year guard Kaden Augustin (Ottawa, ON) and the Mounties leading scorer heading into the game Edmond Surur (Fredericton, NB) were enough for the home Mounties to hold off the visiting Seawolves and secure their first win of the season. Tim Ellison finished with an incredible 30 points, 23 rebounds, and 6 assists to lead the Mounties, and Jonas Munroe (Moncton, NB) chipped in 12 more. Top performers for the Seawolves were AJ Nash with 20 points and 10 rebounds as well as Ethan Szemerda (Saint John, NB) with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Mount Allison (1-3) are back on the floor Friday, November 24th as they visit the Crandall Chargers in Moncton. UNBSJ (1-5) plays host to the St. Thomas Tommies, also on November 24th for their next game. Both games are set for 8:00pm tipoffs.
