The men's Hurricanes basketball team (5-5) took on the STU Tommies (3-5) in the first of two head to head games to be played this weekend.
The Hurricanes had strong three point shooting in the first quarter making 6 of 8 three-pointers (75%) which helped the Canes lead 33-16 after the first quarter. Spencer Rossiter caught on fire, who came off the bench and quickly scored 13 points with 1 assist, and 3 rebounds.
It was more of the same in the second quarter, with the Hurricanes making 23 of 42 (54.8%) shots from the field and 9 of 14 (64.3%) from three-point range.
The Hurricanes were up 60-41 at the end of half, with the only real push back coming from fourth year Owen Amos. Amos nailed all three of his three-pointers, and finished the half with 10 points.
The Hurricanes coasted through the second half maintaining a dominant lead over the Tommies, winning 109-82.
The Hurricanes had some great performances against the Tommies, which included Spencer Rossiter with 22 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds, Aaron Simmons with 21 points, 6 assists, and five rebounds. Finally Bryce Corless who was one rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds.
Key performances from the Tommies include Owen Amos with 15 points, 2 assists, and 4 rebounds. Noah Mcarthy struggled from the beginning, but got hot in the second half, finishing with 15 points, and 3 rebounds. Finally Vincent Lyttleton had a hard fought 16 points.
The Hurricanes are now just trailing behind third place UNBSJ by one win. The Hurricanes look to have another strong win against the Tommies tomorrow at 4 p.m., at the Holland College McMillan Centre.
