Hurricanes defeat Mounties

On Saturday, the Hurricanes hosted the Mount Allison Mounties at the McMillan Centre in ACAA Men's Basketball action.

The Hurricanes led the Mounties 23-14 after the first quarter, with help from 5th-year guard Bryce Corless, who nailed 2 of 3 three-pointers and finished with eight points in the quarter. Owen Parsons also made his mark in the first, finishing with six points.

It was a tough second quarter for the Canes, who were outscored 30-21. The Mounties were on fire from the three-point line, shooting 10 of 16 (62.5%) from three over the first two quarters.

It was a back-and-forth third quarter where both teams kept it close. The Mounties' hot hand ran out, going from 71.4% from the field in the second quarter, to 38.9% from the field in the third.

Second year Hurricanes guard, Aaron Simmons, was capitalizing on both ends of the ball. Simmons was getting to the basket at will, and providing great defensive help, with multiple steals in the third.

After defensive adjustments from the Hurricanes in the third and fourth quarter, the Mounties couldn't get back into a groove. The Canes were able to cruise to a comfortable 89-76 win.

Key players for the Hurricanes were Bryce Corless, who had 26 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Simmons was an impactful player who stuffed the stat sheet all night. Simmons had 25 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Finally, Spencer Rossiter had a good game coming off the bench, having 12 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds.

Key players for the Mounties were Jonas Munroe, who had a strong double-double with 23 points, and 15 rebounds. Finally Keith Rowan had a solid game with 17 points.

The Holland College Hurricanes look to continue their win streak tomorrow as they take on the Mounties in the last home game of the 2024-2025 regular s

eason.
