Hurricanes defeat Mounties

On Sunday, the Hurricanes hosted the Mount Allison Mounties at the McMillan Centre in ACAA Men's Basketball action.

 

Mount Allison showed their determination in an attempt to split the weekend series in their second matchup with the Hurricanes this weekend. The Mounties outscored the Hurricanes in the opening quarter 26-14, and kept it close in the second, narrowly being outscored 30-26. 

 

The first half was dominated by two players, Mounties forward Ryan Norris, and Canes Guard Bryce Corless.  Norris had 21 points, shooting 6/12 from the field and 4/8 from the three-point line. Corless had another exceptional start, scoring 18 points on 6/8 shooting from the field. 

 

At the end of two quarters, The Mounties were up 52-44

 

It was another great comeback by the Hurricanes in the final two quarters, where the Canes outscored the Mounties 20-10 in the third, and 30-23 in the fourth. Similar to last night's game against the Mounties, Hurricanes second-year guard, Aaron Simmons, caught fire in the second half of play. Simmons was the leading scorer for his team in both quarters, with a combined 15 points.

 

The Hurricanes won the game 94-85, improving their win streak to 6 games.

 

Key players for the Hurricanes included Bryce Corless, who had 28 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals; Aaron Simmons, who had 23 points; and Spencer Rossiter who had 11 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals.

 

Key players for the Mounties included Ryan Norris, who had 26 points,  Rashawn Ferguson, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds, finally Sebastian Tector who had 9 assists.

 

The Holland College Hurricanes look to keep their momentum alive as they travel to Halifax, N.S. on Feb. 8 to take on the UKC Blue Devils (3-11), in their final two games of the regular season.

 

The Mount Allison Mounties look to find success at home against the St. Thomas Tommies (5-8) on Feb. 7 in Sackville, N.B.
