Dragons Hold Off Hurricanes to Earn Spot in ACAA Championship Game

Fredericton, NB – The USTA Dragons fend off the Holland Hurricanes to secure their spot in the ACAA Championship game.

At the start of the first set, both teams were going back and forth until the Dragons put together a run to carve out a three-point lead 10-7. Following this, the Dragons began to put a little more distance on the scoreboard, bringing the lead to five with a score of 18-13. Despite a very strong effort from the Hurricanes cutting the lead to two at one point, the Dragons took home the first set 25-21.

Early on in the second set, the Hurricanes put together an excellent run that granted them a four-point lead 6-2. The Dragons would come right back, taking the lead with a score of 15-12. The Dragons would hold onto that lead and take home the set 25-18.

The third set saw the Hurricanes leap out to a five-point lead 9-4. The Hurricanes would keep the momentum rolling as their lead sat at 21-14 near the end of the set. The Dragons showed some fight near the end of the set but the Hurricanes would walk away with the win 25-17.

The fourth set gave us our most evenly matched start of the day as the two were tied 8-8. The Dragons would then go on a run to pick up a four-point lead 15-11 as we neared the end of a thrilling set. This set ended with more great play from the Dragons that brought them a 25-18 victory.

This win means the Dragons and player of the game Ethan Aucoin will play the St Thomas Tommies in the ACAA Finals.

This loss marks the end of the season for the Holland Hurricanes and player of the game Keiran Hamlin.
