Hurricanes defeat Chargers

he Hurricanes hosted the Crandell Chargers Saturday, at the McMillan Centre, in ACAA Women's Basketball action.

 

The Canes led after the first quarter, 29-15. Amy Plaggenhoef was on fire in the first, shooting 5/8 from the field and 3/6 from three-point range. Plaggenhoef led both teams with 13 points after the first quarter. 

 

It was more of the same for the Canes in the second quarter, outplaying the Chargers in almost all aspects of play. The Canes led in rebounds (25-15), assists (12-9), blocks (2-0), and steals (8-6) in the second quarter. After two quarters the Canes led 47-25.

 

The Canes didn't take their foot off the gas in the third quarter, finishing the third quarter up 73-37. 

 

The Canes cruised to a comfortable 82-47 win.

 

The key players for the Hurricanes were Amy Plaggenhoef who had 20 points and 5 assists, along with Nykeva Brown who had 18 points, 8 steals, and 10 rebounds, with 5 assists. Finally, Lauren Armstrong who had 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.

 

The key players for the Chargers were Ellie Hiltz with 10 points, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds. Kelsey Alward had a balanced stat line with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.

 

It was a big win for the Hurricanes who improved to 10-3 in the standings. The Canes are in a fight for first place with Mount Allison (9-2) and MSVU (9-3). The Canes play tomorrow at the McMillian Centre at 1 p.m., in their second game of the weekend, against the Crandell Charge
