The Hurricanes hosted the Crandell Chargers Sunday, at the McMillan Centre, in ACAA Women's Basketball action.
The first quarter was all Hurricanes as they led 19-7. Nykeva Brown picked up where she left off after her incredible defensive performance on Saturday. Brown finished the first quarter with three steals.
The Chargers caught fire in the second quarter tying the Canes 32-32. They outscored the Canes 25-13, with Amy Gaylord leading the charge with 9 points and going 3/5 from three-point range.
Lauren Armstrong kept the Hurricanes in the lead after a strong push by the Chargers. Armstrong scored 11 points in the third quarter, which helped the Canes stay up 54-51 going into the fourth quarter.
The Canes were able to reclaim a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter, winning the game 75-59
The key players for the Hurricanes include Lauren Armstrong, who scored 26 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals. Karissa George also had a solid performance, scoring 15 points with 6 steals. Finally, Amy Pleggenhoef had a solid game, with 10 points, 2 steals, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds.
The key players for the Chargers include Lauren Lilly who had 12 points, Kelsey Alward who had 6 points, and 7 rebounds. Finally, Mackenzi Chapman had 8 points and 5 rebounds.
The Hurricanes look to stay at the top of the league as they take on the Mount Allison Mounties (9-3) at the McMillan Centre on February 1st.
The Crandell Chargers host Mount Saint Vincent (10-3) February 1st.
