The Hurricanes hosted the Mount Allison Mounties, on Sunday, at the McMillan Centre, in ACAA Women's Basketball action.
It was a close first quarter, which saw third-year Mounties forward, Amelia Mitchell, leading both teams in scoring with six points. The Mounties closed the first quarter being up 21-20.
The Canes finished the second quarter up 39-35, with good ball movement from Alexa Rancourt, and Vataya Talbot throughout the quarter. The Mounties continued to have success from Amelia Mitchell, who finished the half with 10 points, 4 assists, and 6 rebounds.
It was a low-scoring third quarter, with both teams scoring only 24 points. Despite this, however, the Canes remained in the lead, 53-45.
The Hurricanes put on a defensive clinic in the fourth quarter, only allowing the Mounties to score seven points. The Canes outscored the Mounties 18-7 in the fourth, cruising to a 71-52 victory.
Key players for the Hurricanes were Alexa Rancourt, who had 19 points and 13 rebounds; Lauren Armstrong, who had 16 points and 16 rebounds; and Vataya Talbot, who had 5 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds.
Key players for the Mounties were Amelia Mitchell who had 14 points, 5 assists, with 9 rebounds, and Jillian Mumford who had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and two steals.
The Hurricanes wrap up the regular season next week, in Halifax, N.S. as they go on the road to play the UKC Blue Devils (7-8) on Feb. 8.
The Mounties look to win on home turf next week, as they take on the St. Thomas Tommies (8-6) on Feb. 7.
