Seawolves Outlast Tommies in Five-Set Thriller to Reach ACAA Final

Fredericton, NB – The UNBSJ Seawolves take down the St Thomas Tommies in dramatic fashion winning 3-2 to secure their trip to the ACAA women's volleyball championship game.

The beginning of the first set came with the promise of a great game. The Tommies and Seawolves traded blows until midway through the set, where the Tommies put together a run to secure a 13-9 lead. The Seawolves would then respond with a run of their own bringing the game back to even at a score of 15-15. This stalemate would continue until the last four points of the set where the Seawolves would take over securing them a 25-21 win of the first set.

The Seawolves would keep that momentum rolling in the second set leaping out to an early 12-8 lead. The next points were hard fought and even until the Tommies put together a run to bring them back to even at a score of 21-21. The Tommies would continue their excellent play the rest of the way, digging out a tough 23-25 win of the second set.

The third set saw the Seawolves mount a nine-point lead with the score sitting at 17-8. The Tommies would put together a valiant effort cutting the lead to five, but they would fall just short as the Seawolves take the set 25-17.

The Tommies would take over the beginning of the 4th set, jumping out to a five-point lead 11-6. The Seawolves would storm back, bringing the game to a tie at 15-15. The Tommies would go on to clean up the rest of the set, taking it 22-25.

The Seawolves came out firing on all cylinders in the deciding set, blazing out to a 7-point lead 8-1. The Tommies wasted no time going on a run of their own, cutting the lead down to two 9-7. That early lead would prove to be too much in the end as the Seawolves win the set and the game 15-9.

This win for the Seawolves and player of the game Kate Mcleod, means they will play either the Mount Allison Mounties or the Holland Hurricanes in the finals.

This loss for the Tommies and player of the game Kathleen Boyle marks the end of their season.
