ACAA Athletes of the Week - Week of Oct. 16, 2021

ACAA Athletes of the Week - Week of Oct. 16, 2021

The identities of the teams making both the men's and women's soccer playoffs in the ACAA are now known with one week remaining in the regular season, and these players turned in big performances when their teams needed them the most.

Jillian Smith, University of New Brunswick-Saint John - Soccer

The Seawolves keeper was outstanding in less than perfect conditions, stopping all eight shots that came her way to preserve a clean sheet in UNB-Saint John's 2-0 win over Mount St. Vincent, which helped the Seawolves clinch a place at next weekend's ACAA Championships.

The Markham, Ont. native is in her third year of eligibility at UNB-Saint John.

Evan Rees, St. Thomas University - Soccer

In a busy three-game week for St. Thomas, Rees played a crucial role in keeping the Tommies' defense together, as the side only conceded one goal in securing all nine points. St. Thomas has conceded the fewest goals of any ACAA side (three), and they have clinched at least a top-two seed for next weekend's ACAA Championships.

"Evan has played every minute of every game so far this year and has been a beast in the backline conceding only 1 goal in our 3 wins this week to continue our unbeaten streak and further improve our league best plus minus (+29)," said Tommies' head coach, John-Ryan Morrison of the Elmira, Ont. native, who is in the Arts program at St. Thomas.
