Mounties clinch 2nd place in ACAA for second consecutive year
The Mounties erased a 6 point deficit in the fourth quarter on Wednesday against the hometown UNBSJ Seawolves to win 88-78, improving its record to 15-5 in ACAA league play. The Mounties out scored the Seawolves 25-9 in the final quarter to get the win, securing its hold on second place in league standings and for the second consecutive year, earning a first round bye in the upcoming ACAA Championships to be held March 2-4 at Dalhousie AC in Truro. Rod Joseph had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mounties. Shooting guard Yanniv Perez came off the bench to score 17 points and Thomas LeGallais dropped in 16 points to go along with 11 assists. Mack Chisholm continued his consistent play with 12 points, 3 steals and 3 rebounds while Brad Sanford added 11 points and 7 rebounds. The Mounties needed the win after coming off back to back road losses to nationally ranked Holland Hurricanes and the Crandall Chargers. It was the first time in two years the Mounties had two losses in a row in ACAA league play.
The Mounties play their final game of the regular season play this Saturday at home against their NS arch rival Mount Saint Vincent Mystics in a 4pm start. The game will highlight and recognize three graduating Mountie players, Brad Sanford, Kellan Duke, and Rod Joseph who will play their last home game for the garnet and gold in the McCormack gymnasium.
