Seawolves Defeat Chargers 2-1

Seawolves Defeat Chargers 2-1

SAINT JOHN, NB - In grey skies and howling wind the Seawolves topped the Chargers 2-1.

It was a tough played even contest between the two teams with both sides putting eight shots on goal. The wind played a big factor in the match pushing the ball around to the point that players would struggle to have the ball sit still for placed kicks. The Chargers played with the winds in the backs for the first half but were unable to capitalize, the second half would see them with the winds in their faces making any upfield passes a challenge.

Karlee Duval would open the scoring in the 58th minute for the Seawolves, with the assist coming from Joce Splitgerber. Minutes later a cross into the box from the Seawolves with late movement caught a Chargers defender off guard, leading to an own goal in the 63-minute of play.

Down by a pair of goals, Crandall's Amanda Piltzmaker put the team on her back finding the back of the net from the far right, taking an adventitious angle to beat the Seawolves Keeper in the 75th minute. Minutes later Kayla Matchett would feed Piltzmaker the ball who got behind the defence and beat the goalie but the ball was just out of reach as she stopped the ball on the back line, her momentum took her out of the play and no other Chargers were around for the second chance opportunity.

After 90 minutes the Chargers drop to 4-7 on the season with their chances of making the playoffs almost out of reach. For the Chargers to make it into the playoffs the team would need to win against Holland College on Saturday and STU would need to lose their three remaining games.
