ACAA men’s basketball

The UNB Saint John Seawolves battled the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in ACAA men's basketball action.

It was a match up between two hot teams. The Seawolves had four wins in their last five games while the Mystics had won two in a row. The game was close throughout with the Seawolves having last possession for the win in regulation. It was not meant to be as the Mystics lived to see overtime where they outscored the Seawolves 8-5 to win the game 85-82. 

Ashton Slawter had a big outing for the Mystics with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Wesley Bennett and Liam Mitchell added 13 points each and Ben Kidson finished with 12 points and 6 assists.

The Seawolves got 16 point games from Keegan Gray and Jacob Vickers who also led the team with 7 rebounds. Hunter Gray and Ben Tait added 9 points each.

The Mystics are now 13-7 which moves them into a third place tie with Crandall University. The Seawolves dropped to 8-10 leaving them untouched in fifth place. Both teams will play them in the quarter finals when playoffs begin March 2nd in Truro at Dalhousie Agricultural Campus. The quarter final matchups are still up on the air pending results in the final week of the season.

The Seawolves play at home tomorrow, February 19 at 3:00 PM against Holland College, the second ranked team in Canada. This is a make up game from February 11 which was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Mystics travel to Mount Allison University February 24 for a 4:00 PM game against the Mounties.
