Chargers Drop Second Match of the Season

MONCTON,NB - Crandall Chargers men's soccer team dropped their second game of the season to University of King's College (UKC) Blue Devils with a final score of 4-2.

UKC started the game fast, keeping the ball in the Chargers zone and getting four corner kicks in the first ten minutes of play. The Chargers were able to settle down and control the ball, leading to a handful of counter play opportunities over the course of the first half. The Blue Devils opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal by Nolan Bradley from just outside the box.

The lead would not be for long though, as Crandall's Jonathan Albinet scored in the 36th minute from a header off a corner kick from Michah Crummey. Shortly after, the Chargers were at it again, this time with Crummey finding the back of the net on a free kick, assisted by Luke Knowles. During the first half stoppage time, UCK's Ethan Oderkirk was awarded a penalty kick for being taken down in the box, which he was able to convert past Crandall's goalkeeper Matt Pitman.

Coming into the second half of play both teams continued to stretch the field. Though UKC outshot Crandall 4-2, each team had several opportunities. The Blue Devils were able to retake the lead in the 74th minute courtesy of an Achim Duerr-Ferrel goal. During the second half stoppage time, Crandall had two opportunities to score with balls crossed into the box, but were turned away by UKC Goalkeeper Parker Ingham. In the dying seconds of stoppage time UKC put the game out of reach with a goal by Ian Boone.
