Atiquillah Scores Pair as Mystics Defeat Seawolves 3-1

Moncton, NB – The Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics defeated the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves 3-1 Friday night in a rather unusual "home" game for the Seawolves.

With Hurricane Fionna postponing the original matchup between the two teams, they Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association made the decision to host the game at a neutral site to limit the travel for a weekday game for the Mystics.

The Mystics wasted no time jumping in front as both Tyler Graves and Waris Atiquillah scored goals in the opening 13 minutes of the match to put a shock in the system of the Seawolves. The teams would remain deadlocked until the 52nd minute mark when the Seawolves earned themselves a penalty kick, Griffin Cassidy (Rothesay, NB) would step the mark and would be stopped on the initial stop by Mystics' keeper Michael Grechuk, but Cassidy would follow it up by hammering the rebound home to bring the Seawolves within one.

Within five minutes of the Seawolves bringing the score to 2-1, the Mystics would cap off the scoring in the exact way the Seawolves did; by earning a penalty kick and scoring on the rebound. Atiquillah would have his initial shot stopped by veteran keeper Dylan Wornell (Quispamsis, NB), but wouldn't be denied on the rebound, finishing the scoring at 3-1.

With the loss the Seawolves fall to 3-6-0, while the Mystics move to 2-3-3.

Next up for the Seawolves will be Saturday, October 15 when they host the Crandall University Chargers in the final home game of the regular season. The Mystics will be back in action on the 15th as well, when they host the Dal AC Rams.
