Recap

UNB vs STU 13 September 2015

2:00pm College Field

This match was the home opener for UNB, who played MTA in Sackville two days earlier on Friday (29-5). It was UNB's first game of the season. It was a true hometown showdown with big crowds out to watch the game. The play was hard and physical and didn't let up for the full 80 minutes.

In the first half, most of the action was in STU's endzone. They played a strong rucking game and had a powerful forward pack. STU scored first with a penalty kick, but UNB quickly followed up with a try. STU made an attempt at a try but UNB held the line. After several minutes of hard back and forth, STU got past the UNB defense for a try and convert, but UNB quickly hit back with another try, tying the score 10-10 at the half time whistle.

STU started the second half with purpose and scored, but UNB came back once again, bringing the score to 17-17 in the first quarter of the second half. The UNB backline made some huge tackles on breakaways from STU, keeping the score gap low. However, the big tackles were not enough to hold back the STU offense, and they pulled into the lead, winning the match 36-17.

UNB plays STU again on Friday October 2nd.

Scorers for UNB: Allyson Heustis and Johanna Reid with converts by Julija Rans.
