Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University Tommies women's soccer team started their 2021-22 season off with a 1-0 win against the Dalhousie Agriculture Campus Rams.

The Tommies got their lone goal from rookie Emma Langille (Fredericton, NB) who netted her first ACAA goal in the 38th minute. 

Fellow rookie Laura Nancekievill (Hartland, NB) finished the game with the clean sheet. 

"It felt really good to be out there," said 4th year centre back, Kaleigh Roberts. "Kind of weird at first, with the stands full, the pressure was on. I think we showed up and the practices we have had really helped."

Roberts (Moncton, NB) and her fellow defenders stood tall all afternoon, shutting down most of the Rams attacks. Haley Smith had a pair of chances for the Rams throughout the match, but was unable to capitalize. 

"We had set goals right away for the game, and one was to go hard right away and get a good shot on net in the first 15 minutes and we did that," added Roberts. 

The Tommies will take on the defending ACAA Champions, Holland College Hurricanes Sunday at 12:00 at Grant-Harvey Centre Turf Field.
