Splitgerber's Pair of Goals Leads UNBSJ Over UKC 2-0

Saint John, NB – The University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves defeated the visiting University of King's College Blue Devils 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Canada Games Stadium.

After both teams had their Saturday games postponed due to Hurricane Fiona, the Blue Devils were able to depart Halifax, NS early Sunday morning for their afternoon match with the Seawolves.

Joce Splitgerber (Orono, ON) opened the scoring for the Seawolves in the 7th minute after Hope Gaudet (Quispamsis, NB) sent a ball up field and Splitgerber took a touch past the Blue Devils' defender and went in alone on the keeper. The keeper came out to challenge but couldn't handle the ball cleanly and Splitgerber slid the ball into the open cage for her fifth goal in five games so far this season, matching her total from her rookie season in 2021-22.

Splitgerber would strike again in the 65th minute, sending a perfectly placed shot between the keeper and the post, pushing her Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association lead in goals to six, two more than the next closest.

Veteran keeper, Jillian Smith (Markham, ON), would make five saves for the clean sheet, making it three straight clean sheets for the Seawolves.

Both teams will be back in action October 1st,  with the Blue Devils (1-3-1) heading to Moncton to face the Crandall University Chargers (2-3-0), while the Seawolves (4-1-0) will host the Holland College Hurricanes (2-1-1).
