Seniors Day Success for Seawolves

Saint John, NB – Saturday afternoon saw the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves take down the visiting Crandall University Chargers 2-1 in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association play.

It was both Think Pink weekend and senior appreciation day for the Seawolves as they honored their six graduating players: Jillian Smith, Karlee Duval, Sophie Williams, Hannah Humphrey, Julia Short and Kayla Rowe.

With heavy rain in the forecast both teams prepared for the worst, but the rain held off on the afternoon, for the most part, and both teams just had to deal with high winds at Canada Games Stadium.

The first half kicked off with the Chargers having the wind at their backs, giving them the advantage out of the gate, but the first half would bring no scoring in the match. It wasn't until the Seawolves had the wind on their side that the field tilted in their favour. Duval would open the scoring in the 58th minute, and the Seawolves would maintain pressure from there on out, leading to an own goal by the Chargers to put up a 2-0 lead. The ACAA's leading scorer, Amanda Piltzmaker, would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 75th minute, and the Chargers would nearly tie the match a few moments later as Piltzmaker would make a move past Jillian Smith, but couldn't bury the goal.

The final whistle would sound with the Seawolves taking the 2-1 victory, pushing their record to 7-1-2 on the season, while the Chargers would fall to 4-7-0.

Both teams are back in action October 22nd for the final weekend of regular season play, with the Chargers heading to Holland College (5-2-2), and the Seawolves heading to MSVU (7-0-2).
