Fredericton, NB – The University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves (2) took down the Holland College Hurricanes (3) in the second semi-final match of the 2022 ACAA Women’s Soccer Championships, to advance to the Final against the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics.

The Hurricanes took an early lead with Helena Vos scoring mere minutes into the game. However, the narrow 1-0 lead didn’t last long for the ‘Canes, as the Seawolves answered right back. Jocephine Splitgerber scored her first of two in the game, evening the match at 1-1, just six minutes into the match. The score would hold up for the remainder of the first half. 

Holland College dominated play early in the second half. The Hurricanes hit the post not once, but twice. Undeterred, Holland College maintained the offensive pressure, but ultimately came up empty handed. 

Still locked in a 1-1 draw late in the match, the Seawolves took advantage when opportunity presented itself. Splitgerber fired home her second goal of the match - a shot just past the outstretched hands of the diving Hurricanes’ goalkeeper, Brianna Spencer. Splitgerber’s goal gave the Seawolves a 2-1 lead in the dying minutes, ultimately leading her team to the win.

Splitgerber said she didn’t want to go to overtime and told her teammates that if she got the ball, she’d put it in. 

“That’s just the magic,” she said. “It worked.” 

The Seawolves will face the MSVU Mystics Sunday at the Grant-Harvey Centre to compete for the ACAA Championship. Kick-off is at 12:00pm.
