After an extended break, the ACAA officially returns to competition in New Brunswick tonight, with the St. Thomas University Tommies heading to the Port City to battle the UNB-Saint John Seawolves in women's volleyball at 7 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday will see full slates of games as men's and women's basketball return to the court, along with more women's volleyball.

Meanwhile, men's volleyball will resume action next weekend, as the ACAA's Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island member institutions will be permitted to resume play.

The projected scheduling of regular season play begins tonight and runs through March 6, with the potential for winning percentages determining seeding in the event of an incomplete schedule. 

However, this year's ACAA Championship format for basketball and volleyball will be different in that the championships themselves will not be decided in a single location over a traditional weekend.

Instead, after discussions with the ACAA's Return to Play committee, the formats have some key differences, notably the introduction of play-in games on March 6 for men's and women's basketball (7th place vs. 6th place, hosted by 6th place team) and women's volleyball (9th place vs. 8th place, hosted by 8th place).

From there, traditional single-elimination championship brackets would follow, with the higher seed hosting each matchup throughout the week until champions are crowned on March 12 (women's volleyball) and March 13 (men's and women's basketball).

For men's volleyball, the format will feature single-elimination semifinals on March 8, with the winners then advancing to a best-of-three championship series running from March 11 through March 13, to be hosted by the higher seed.

The ACAA champions will then compete at the CCAA Basketball and Volleyball National Championships, which will run from March 24-27, and occur at the following locations:

• CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship - Holland College (Charlottetown, PE)

• CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship - Cégep Limoilou (Limoilou, QC)

• CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship - Vancouver Island University (Nanaimo, BC)

• CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship - Humber College (Etobicoke, ON)

As has been the case throughout the pandemic, all events are subject to change in accordance with local Public Health guidelines.
