Mystics Respond at Home vs Mounties

Mystics Respond at Home vs Mounties

Less that 48 hours after a tough road loss and losing two of their better players to injuries the Mystics responded with a very gutsy performace against a very good Mount Allison basketball team. It would have been easy for the home team to use the injury excuse and battle to keep things respectable but that wasn't at all on the game play for Coach McRae and his sqaud as they handed the Mounties a loss and positioned the Mystics to compete for the second bye in the upcoming ACAA Championships.

Mo Abukar came off the bench and scored 31 points for the Mystics, more than the entire Mounties. After sitting on Friday's road game, he came into the contest today and was a handful for the Mounties all game as they could not find a match up for him. His stellar play on both ends was impressive and he refused to let his team down with two starters out with Injury. Zach Ryan also stepped up and into a starting role today asnd added 11 points and a couple timely baskets when the Mounties were making a push after being down 18 points. The fourth quarter was very entertaining after an 11 point Mystics lead was erased on back to back threes from the Mounties. From there is was a back and fourth afair with each team taking the lead and the other coming back to tie it. A missed jumper and free throw by the Mounties cost them a couple possessions on which the Mystics capitolized on and that was enough to seal the win.

Leading the charge for the Mounties was Sam Pierson with 20 and 7 rebounds & James French added 19 and 14 rebounds. As mentioned Mo Abukas with 31 and 6 boards, Zach Ryan with 11 while Redford Ingram and Joel McCrossin both added 9 points. Tario Sands had 11 rebounds and played a strong defensive game.

Mystics will wrap up the regular season on Saturday Feb 29 th at home vs the Crandall Chargers where they will also honor their senior graduation players. Game time is 4pm.
