(Halifax, N.S.) – The University of Kings College Blue Devils defeated the Holland College Hurricanes 2-1 in the second semifinal of the 2023 ACAA Men's Soccer Championship.
Both teams battled early on with much of the play taking place midfield limiting the number of scoring opportunities for both teams. Holland had a number of great opportunities, but it was until an extra minute was added to the first half that Gareth McKinnon found the back of the net to lead the Blue Devils into a one-goal lead heading into the second half.
Keynan Harvey scored a goal for Kings 10 minutes into the second half, increasing the Blue Devils lead to two.
The Hurricanes continued to press, doubling the number of shots their opponents took in the second half and finally scored a goal of their own with Fiston Ngabonziza finding the back of the net in the 70th minute.
That would do it for goals for the rest of the game, giving the Blue Devils a 2-1 to secure a spot in the championship final.
Harvey was named the Lawtons Player of the Game for Kings, while Ngabonziza received the honour for Holland.
Kings will advance to the championship final to face Mount Saint Vincent University. Kick-off is at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
