Hurricanes cap off home opening weekend with back-to-back wins

The Holland Hurricanes played their most complete game so far this season as they defeated the UNBSJ Seawolves 3-1.

The Hurricanes came out of the gates flying in the first set as they took an early 10-5 lead. The Seawolves were able to find some momentum and cut the Hurricanes lead down to three, but despite this the Hurricanes were able to bounce back and took a 19-15 lead and forced the Seawolves to call a timeout.

The Seawolves came out of the timeout looking like a different team. They erased the Hurricanes four-point lead and forced Hurricanes head coach Brett Butler to call a timeout. The rest of the set saw the teams trade points back and forth. With the set tied at 23, Hurricanes Tyler McBride and Izumo Ueda took control scoring back-to-back points as the Hurricanes took the opening set 25-23.

The second set started with both team trading points. Three missed serves in a row caused the Seawolves to fall behind 10-7, but they were able to claw back and tie the game at 16. The rest of the set saw both teams battling hard as neither team was able to pull away.

Tied at 21, the Hurricanes were able to build a two point lead and forced Seawolves head coach Dino Karatzios to call a timeout. Despite the timeout the Hurricanes were able to hold onto their momentum as they took the second set 25-23 and held a 2-0 lead heading into the third set.

The third set saw some great defense from the Seawolves, but they couldn't stop the Hurricanes as they took an early 4-0 lead and forced a Seawolves timeout. The Seawolves put their timeout to good use as they disrupted the Hurricanes momentum and tied the set at 6.

The Hurricanes were able to bounce back as they took a 13-9 lead. The Seawolves showed great resilience, outscoring the Hurricanes 6-1 to take a 15-14 lead and forcing a Hurricanes timeout. Coming from the timeout the Hurricanes were able to tie the game at 18.

Carson Gray led the Hurricanes to four straight points as they took a 22-19 lead and the Seawolves were forced to take another timeout. The Seawolves were able to battle back taking the lead 28-27 and forced Butler and the Hurricanes to call another timeout with the set on the line. The teams traded points after the timeout, but the Seawolves were able to pull away and win the set 32-30.

The Hurricanes dominated the opening stages of the fourth set taking a 5-0 lead and forcing a timeout. The Hurricanes continued their domination after the timeout scoring four unanswered points to take a 9-0 lead and force another timeout from the Seawolves. The Hurricanes didn't look back as they won the set 25-17 and took the game 3-1.
