ACAA women’s basketball

The UNB Saint John Seawolves took on the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in ACAA women's basketball action.

The Seawolves stayed with the first place Mystics in the early going but the Mystics shooting and constant pressure proved too much to handle as they took control of the game late in the first quarter.  They continued to pressure the Seawolves from that point on, building a 46-27 lead at halftime. The score was 65-43 after three quarters and the final score landed at 88-58 for the Mystics.

The Mystics were led by Kate Gallant who had 16 points and 4 steals. Nikki Arsenault also had a big game (15 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals). Marina Williams and Kelsie Crocker each contributed 12 points for the Mystics.

The Seawolves had a 12 point effort from Megan Baisley and Kathryn Magee. Baisley also grabbed a team-leading 6 rebounds. Jillian McNally added 3 steals for the Seawolves.

The Mystics are now 16-1 which leaves them alone in first place and on the verge of getting a quarter final bye when playoffs begin March 2nd in Truro at Dalhousie Agricultural Campus. The Seawolves fall to 2-14 but continue to cling to the sixth and final playoff spot.

The Mystics travel to Mount Allison University February 24 for a 2:00 PM game against the Mounties.

The Seawolves play at home tomorrow, February 19 at 1:00 PM against Holland College, the second ranked team in Canada. This is a make up game from February 11 which was postponed due to inclement weather.
