Mystics win in Double OT Thriller

Mystics win in Double OT Thriller

In a game where the 4th spot was up for grabs in the ACAA standings it was the Mystics who came out on top of the very entertaining basketball game at the AG Brown gymnasium. The visiting Crandall Chargers team did not take advantage of the poor shooting by the Mystics in the first half and went into the break with only a 3 point lead. In the third te scoring strarted to heat up and neither team cracking or allowing big runs to break the game open. The fourth was when foul trouble started to set in especially on the Chargers side when Cedric Denis fouled out and Colby Lawrence picked up two quick ones that sent him to the bench. This allowed the Mystics to get out and really challange the shooters on one end but also allowed them to get to the rim with no protector there which resulted in a hoop or foul. At the end of fourth it was all tied up thanks in large part by two clutch free throws with 3 seconds left by Lawrence setting the table for the first overtime it was a tight defensive five minutes with big shots made on both end under tough pressure. Knotted up at 87 each and entering the second overtime the foul trouble for the Chargers really started to show. No inside presence forced long and tough shots that were challanged by the Mystics coupled with poor passing by the Chargers and resulted in turnovers and easy transition points the Mystics dominated the final OT five minutes. The Mystics seemed to find another gear and pulled away int he first minute by 11 and never looked back scoring a ridiculous 26 points in just five minutes.

The Mystics were led by X transfer Dawson Berze-Butts who had 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, Tario Sands had 20 points and 6 rebounds, Joel McCrossin added 6 point sna d10 rebounds. For the Cahrgers they were led by Dan Maxwell with 20 points and 5 assists, John Albinet added 17 off the bench and Colby Lawrence had a double double 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Mystics head out on the road now for 7 games starting with a mid week tilt accross the city with the Blue Devils of University of Kings College. Game time 8pm.
