Mystics snap impressive Hurricanes streak with road win

CHARLOTTETOWN - The MSVU Mystics did something Saturday that no ACAA team has accomplished since the 2013-14 season; they beat the Hurricanes in their own gym. The 94-85 MSVU victory was the first home loss for Holland College since November 16th, 2013 - a game in which the MSVU Mystics put up 102 points en route to a 102-92 victory.

This time around the Mystics came from behind to stun the Hurricanes, and they created a log-jam in the ACAA standings as a result. The Mystics (7-4, won-lost) now trail the St. Thomas University Tommies (9-3) by just a game and a half, while the Hurricanes (8-3) are locked in second place with the Mount Allison University Mounties (8-3).

Mo Akubar took over offensively for the Mystics with 25 points off the bench. Brody Blakney (17), Campbell Colpitts (16), Dawson Berze-Butts (10), and Joel McCrossin (10) also added double-digit socring efforts.

For the Hurricanes, Adrian Thompson picked up his third 20+ point effort in just his fifth game with 28 points Saturday. He also added 14 boards to earn the double-double. Jordan Holness scored 22 and had nine rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

These two groups will go back at it Sunday at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement. Tip off is set for 2:00 PM.
