Mystics defeat Hurricanes

The Holland Hurricanes fell below .500 after a 100-78 loss to the MSVU Mystics, Saturday afternoon at the MacMillan Centre.

Both teams came out the gate ready to play as they went shot for shot to open the first quarter. With the scoreline 11-8 the Hurricanes defense stepped up as the Hurricanes went on an 11 to 6 run and took a 22-14 lead. MSVU was able to battle back as they went on an 8-2 run and as the first quarter ended trailed the Hurricanes by three 25-22.

The second quarter started the same as the first with both teams trading baskets back and forth. With a 34-30 lead the Hurricanes called a timeout, despite the timeout the teams continued to go back and forth, as the Hurricanes took a 43-36 lead into halftime.

The Hurricanes quickly extended their lead to 11 in the early minutes of the third quarter, but MSVU wouldn't go away. The Mystics stormed back from the 11-point deficit and tied the game at 64 with 1:32 left in the quarter. Despite both teams getting their chances, neither could capitalize as they ended the third quarter still tied at 64.

MSVU started the fourth quarter on fire as they went on a 14-2 run, took the lead 78-66, and forced the Hurricanes to call a timeout. Despite the timeout, MSVU continued to rack up the points, and they ended the quarter on a 22- 12 run. The Mystics grabbed their second win in a row to improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Hurricanes fell to 3-4.
