UNB REDS Capture Sixth Consecutive ACAA Women’s Rugby Title

Fredericton, NB - The REDS' Women's Rugby team defeated the UKC Blue Devils 62 - 5 in Saturday's ACAA Women's Rugby Final. The win in convincing fashion certainly cementing UNB's dynasty status over the past six seasons.

"I'm so proud of the team for the amazing season we've had," said REDS Captain Katharine Maxwell. "Saturday's game was hard-fought on both sides, and we came out on top thanks to our teamwork and dedication throughout the season."

UNB was led by Megan Stewart who scored three tries on the day for the REDS.

"It felt amazing to bring home another title for UNB," said Stewart. "This is my first year playing rugby every and I could not have had a better experience. I cannot wait for next season to play with such an amazing group of girls and learn from the best coaches. We definitely plan on bringing home another banner next year too."

Stewart was named Player of the Game for UNB in Saturday's Finals. The REDS also had scores from Mallory Pittman (2), Cori-Lynn Kirkpatrick, Catherine Boissanault, Lauren Tidd, and Maddy Price while Kate Bennett converted 6 kicks on the day.

Despite the score, UKC certainly didn't make things easy on the REDS. But Stewart credited UNB's teamwork in leading to the victory Saturday.

"This game was the toughest one we played all year," said Stewart. "Each and every one of us played our hearts out. I attribute my success to every single player doing their job. Whether it be people attracting two defenders and dishing to me or a nice ruck that allowed the ball to get out to the back's lineup quickly. It was a team effort that allowed me space to run it into the end zone."

"We wouldn't have been able to do this without our amazing coaches, Kevin Wilson, Ron Cloney, Amy Andrews and Bailey Andrews," said Maxwell. "They have taught us so much and have pushed each player to improve every time we step onto the pitch."

Rosa Toutah scored the lone try for UKC on Saturday who were playing in their first championship game in team history. Chloe Beamish was named UKC's Player of the Game. Certainly, a silver lining on a challenging day for the Blue Devils squad.
