ACAA women’s soccer

The UNB Saint John Seawolves took on the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in ACAA women's soccer action Sunday at the Canada Games Stadium.

The teams were evenly matched in the first half with the Mystics holding a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Neither team had any serious chances to score as the defenses were solid. The second half was much of the same as teams played mostly in the midfield to turn it into a true defensive battle. The Mystics had an opportunity to break the tie with a goalmouth scramble in the 80th minute but Seawolves keeper Marina Comeau made the save.

Disaster struck the Seawolves in the 89th minute when the Mystics were awarded a penalty kick. Breath Laing made no mistake, depositing the ball in the corner to give the Mystics a late 1-0 win.

The Mystics outshot the Seawolves 10-7 for the game. The Seawolves managed four corners and the Mystics had three.

The Seawolves go into the final weekend with a record of 3-3-4 which leaves them in fourth place. The Mystics continue to occupy second place with an 8-2-1 record.
