Tommies defeat Rams to claim back to back wins.

Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Tommies overcame the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams with a dominant 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Grant Harvey Turf Field.

The first half of the match was pedestrian to say the least, with both teams unable to threaten the opposing goalkeeper. It was not until the second half that things began to heat up. Lindsey Smith (Rocky Point, PE) was the lynch pin of the team on Saturday and she got the game's first goal. She scored with a precise shot that kissed the post on its way in.

Smith also set up Rachel Haanstra (Fredericton, NB) for the Tommies' second goal. STU coach, David Itoafa, was delighted with Smith's impact on the game.

"As soon as she came in she scored the goal and really brought us up to that point to get the other two goals so it was good."

Delaney Hancock (Peterborough, ON) scored the final two goals, with each goal being the polar opposite of the other. The first was a shot from outside of the box that flew right below the crossbar. Hancock's second was a carbon copy of the team's second goal as Jasmine Atkinson crossed the ball for Hancock to score.

This was the first Tommies goal for both Smith and Hancock, and coach Itoafa spoke highly of the depth of his team today.

"We want to give everyone a chance this season. It was the same this in preseason and some people surprised us today and played a really good match and they fought and that's what we like to see."

The Tommies next match will take place on Sunday when they host the Holland College Hurricanes. DAL AC's next match will also take place on Sunday when they take on the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves in Saint John.
